What we do
Cert.Photos proves that a photograph is real.
When someone takes a photograph using our mobile app, we create a cryptographic record of that capture at the moment it happens — a fingerprint of the image, the time it was taken, and, if the photographer allows it, where. That record is signed and attached to the photograph using C2PA content credentials, the open industry standard for content provenance. Anyone who later receives the photograph can check it against our public verification page and see that it is the same image that came out of the camera, unaltered.
The problem we exist for is simple to state: generated and manipulated images are now indistinguishable from photographs by eye. Proving that something is fake does not scale. Proving that something is *real*, at the moment it is captured, does.
Who uses it
- Photographers and journalists who need their work to be provably
their own, and provably unedited.
- Newsrooms taking submissions from the field, who need to know that a
photograph is what the sender says it is.
- Anyone documenting something that matters — an accident, a
condition, a claim — where being believed later is the point.
How the service works
1. Capture. The photograph is taken inside our app, using our camera. Photographs cannot be imported from a device's photo library; this is deliberate, and it is what lets us make a claim about the moment of capture at all. 2. Certify. Our servers sign a C2PA manifest for the image using certificates issued by a publicly trusted certificate authority, with a trusted timestamp. 3. Verify. Every certified photograph gets a public verification page at `https://cert.photos/v/<id>`. Anyone with the link can check it. No account is needed to verify.
What we sell
- Free tier — capture, C2PA certification, and a public verification
page for every photograph. No payment method required.
- Pro tier — $20 per year — adds an invisible watermark embedded in
the pixels, which is designed to survive the re-encoding that social platforms apply, plus a watermark-based verification capability and a verified-user indicator. Purchased on our website, not through the app stores. See [Refunds and Cancellation](/refund).
- Enterprise — adds public ledger anchoring and features for
institutional users. Offered under a separate agreement; not generally available to consumers.

How we keep it safe
Cert.Photos has no public feed, no comments, no direct messages and no follows. A shared photograph is a dead-end verification link. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material and report it to NCMEC — see our [Child Safety](/child-safety) page — and anyone can [report content](/report) without an account.
